On December 24, the 37th session of the "Cooperation and Development" lecture series was successfully held at Huagang Courtyard, Qingdao Campus. Co-hosted by the School of Political Science and Public Administration, SCO Research Institute, Institute of Public Security, and China-SCO Economic and Trade College of Shandong University, this session invited Professor Dogan Gursoy as the keynote speaker. Professor Gursoy is a faculty member of Washington State University, recipient of a national talent title in China, and editor-in-chief of the top SSCI journalJournal of Hospitality Marketing & Management. The theme of his lecture was "The Application of Artificial Intelligence in the Belt and Road Service Trade". Edmund Sheng, Distinguished Professor of Shandong University, Taishan Scholar Distinguished Expert, and Executive Dean of the SCO Research Institute, presided over the lecture. More than 30 teachers and students from the School of Political Science and Public Administration and the School of Law attended the academic exchange.
During the keynote speech session, against the macro background of global digital transformation and combining his profound expertise in service marketing, Dogan Gursoy systematically elaborated on how artificial intelligence, especially generative AI and service robots, is reshaping the pattern of global service trade and service delivery. He first pointed out that the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology is significantly improving the quality of service delivery, customer experience, and operational efficiency. When analyzing the specific impacts of AI applications, Dogan Gursoy proposed the dialectical relationship between technology acceptance and long-term usage. He emphasized in particular that AI should not be regarded as a replacement for human employees, but as a tool to enhance service capabilities; the focus of future research should shift from mere "technology acceptance" to "human-AI collaboration" and the in-depth impacts of AI on employee well-being.
During the interactive Q&A session, teachers and students on site conducted in-depth discussions with Professor Dogan Gursoy on issues such as the innovative application of generative AI in the tourism industry and academic journal submission strategies. In his summary, Professor Edmund Sheng spoke highly of Professor Dogan Gursoy's academic contributions, noting that the lecture not only demonstrated the cutting-edge vision of world-class scholars, but also provided an analytical framework with empirical basis and theoretical depth for teachers and students to understand AI empowering modern service industries.
As an important part of the branded "Cooperation and Development" lecture series, this session broadened the academic horizons of teachers and students in the fields of digital economy and service trade by introducing the wisdom of world-class scholars, and further enlivened the international research atmosphere of the college.
