Recently, the 8th Sino-US Arctic Social Sciences Conference was held at Nanfang College of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. Edmund Sheng, Distinguished Professor of Shandong University, Taishan Scholar Distinguished Expert, and Executive Director of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Research Institute, was invited to attend the event.

At the symposium, Professor Edmund Sheng delivered a keynote speech titled "Sino-US Cooperation: Global Governance in the Context of Geopolities". Subsequently, he participated in a Sino-US scholars' roundtable meeting themed "Trends and Prospects of Sino-US Arctic Cooperation", where he conducted academic exchanges around the core issues of Arctic governance. He also chaired the discussion of the parallel session themed "Sino-US Cooperation on Arctic Sustainable Development Under Geopolitical Context: Toward Global Governance".

During his participation, Professor Edmund Sheng held in-depth dialogues with polar affairs experts from multiple American universities and think tanks. He also conducted discussions with leaders and scholars from relevant institutions including Tongji University, State Oceanic Administration, Polar Research Institute of China, Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, National University of Defense Technology, Water Transport Research Institute of the Ministry of Transport, Ocean University of China, and Hong Kong Polar Research Centre.

This forum has built an important platform for promoting academic cooperation between China and the United States in polar governance and sustainable development. Based on the Chinese perspective, Professor Edmund Sheng's speech integrated theoretical discussions with policy practices, contributing Shandong University's wisdom to advancing constructive Arctic governance cooperation under the complex international situation.
