On theeveningof November14, 2023, the2ndlecture of the“Cooperation and Development”series, jointly organized by the School of Political Science and Public Administration at Shandong University, the Institute of SCO Studies of Shandong University, the Institute for Public Safety Research of Shandong University,was successfully held at the meeting room S436 on the fourth floor of Huagangyuan South Building. The theme of the lecture is "Senior Editor from Springer Provides Guidance on English Academic Writing and Publishing”, and it is delivered by Jacob Dreyer, Senior Editor at Springer.The lecture was chaired by Professor Edmund Li Sheng, Distinguished Professor at the School of Political Science and Public Administration and Executive Dean of the Institute of SCO Studies, Shandong University.Faculty members and students from the School of Political Science and Public Administration participated in the academic exchange and discussion.


At the beginning of the lecture, Jacob Dreyer started with two questions: "Why do Chinese scholars need to publish English works?" and "How can Chinese scholars publish English works?" He briefly explained the importance and feasibility for Chinese scholars to publish English works, and showed several English monographs written by Chinese scholars published by Springer since 2015. Subsequently, he also elaborated in detail on the issues that need to be paid attention to in the processes such as manuscript submission, review and proofreading, and typesetting and printing. From the perspective of Chinese scholars, Professor Edmund Li Sheng shared his own experience as well as the experiences of other Chinese scholars in cooperating with world-class international academic publishers to publish English and German monographs, and introduced the latest trends in the international academic publishing community regarding topics related to China.
Starting from the history of the publisher and his personal experiences, Jacob Dreyer expressed his willingness to cooperate with Chinese scholars to publish English works, hoping to spread China's excellent ideology and culture to the whole world. Finally, the teachers and students present actively discussed and exchanged ideas on the processes and issues of book publishing, the feasibility of publishing collected papers, and the advantages of the publisher. Professor Edmund Li Sheng summarized the event and once again expressed his gratitude for Jacob Dreyer's wonderful lecture.
