On June 14, 2024, the Office of the Commission for Comprehensively Deepening Reforms of the Qingdao Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Working Committee of the China-Shanghai Cooperation Organization Local Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Zone of the Qingdao Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China announced the selection results of the "Institutional Innovation Achievements in Promoting the Construction of the SCO Demonstration Zone". A total of 20 high-level institutional innovation achievements and 30 excellent cases were selected. Among them, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Research Institute of Shandong University was selected into the list of excellent cases of the "Institutional Innovation Achievements in Promoting the Construction of the SCO Demonstration Zone".
The Institute of Shanghai Cooperation Organization Research Studies of Shandong University (hereinafter referred to as the Institute of SCO Studies) was established relying on the School of Political Science and Public Administration of Shandong University. Its purpose is to improve the service functions of the SCO Demonstration Zone, build a high-level think tank platform, and better serve the national strategic needs and the opening-up of Shandong Province. Focusing on the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and international security, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and international economic cooperation, legal issues related to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and international cultural exchanges, the SCO Research Institute supports the high-quality development of the SCO Demonstration Zone in aspects such as the international situation, international security, international economic cooperation, international law, and culture, and contributes the Shandong University's solutions to the high-level opening-up. Professor Ma Ben of Shandong University serves as the Dean of the Institute of SCO Studies, and the Distinguished ProfessorEdmund Li Shengserves as the Executive Dean of the Institute of SCO Studies.
This selection is not only an affirmation of the research achievements of the Institute of SCO Studies of Shandong University, but also an acknowledgement of the academic research capability of Shandong University. This honor will inspire the institute to continue to deepen its research and contribute more wisdom and strength to the development of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the mutually beneficial cooperation among its member states. In the future, the Institute of SCO Studies will continue to maintain an open attitude, strengthen academic exchanges with the member states of the SCO, promote the emergence of more innovative research achievements, and make greater contributions to regional cooperation and development.
