On the morning ofJune17,2024,the 11thlectureof the“Cooperation and Development”series, jointly organized by the School of Political Science and Public Administration at Shandong University, the Institute of SCO Studies of Shandong University, the Institute for Public Safety Research of Shandong University, was successfully heldat themeeting roomon thefifthfloor of Huagangyuan South Building. This lecture is themed "A Journey East from Greenland: Great Potential for Economic, Trade and Cultural Exchanges between China and Greenland". Itwasdelivered by Jacob Isbosethsen, an internationally renowned expert on Arctic continental shelf issues and the representative of Greenland in China and East Asia. Thelecturewas chaired by Professor Edmund Li Sheng, Distinguished Professor at the School of Political Science and Public Administration and Executive Dean of the Institute of SCO Studies,Shandong University. Faculty members and students from theSchoolof Political Science and Public Administration and the School of Lawparticipated in the academic exchange and discussion.

At the beginning of the lecture, Jacob Isbosethsen introduced the basic situation of Greenland, which is the largest island in the world. Subsequently, he gave a detailed introduction to the culture and population, foreign policy, economic development status, and tourism situation of Greenland, providing a comprehensive perspective for the teachers and students present to have a deeper understanding of the island. On this basis, he also emphasized the view that climate change is an opportunity for Greenland, which offers a new perspective on our understanding of the impacts of climate change. At the same time, Jacob Isbosethsen introduced the cooperation between China and Greenland and the unique role played by Qingdao during the cooperation process. In response to Jacob Isbosethsen's wonderful speech, ProfessorEdmund Li Shengbelieved that although China and Greenland are geographically far apart and the international situation is constantly changing, the two sides can still work together, understand each other, and further strengthen cooperation and exchanges.

In the interactive communication session, teachers and students had a heated discussion and exchange centering on issues such as "diplomacy of small countries on a large scale", the basic legal issues of Greenland, and the positive impacts of climate change on Greenland. At the end of the lecture, Professor Edmund Li Sheng summarized the meeting and once again expressed his gratitude for Jacob Isbosethsen's wonderful speech.
